Cross-laminated timber (CLT) and the slabs that comprise it are the flagship timber product for solid timber construction. The large production sizes, which typically stand out due to a thickness of up to 314 mm and a width of 3 m and the crosswise arrangement of the individual board layers, allow architects and engineers to create diverse applications in this space.
Adequately long and powerful connections are required to achieve true load transfer between these slabs (e.g. for floor-to-floor and wall-to-wall connections). Self-tapping screws play a crucial role in this regard and are preferably used due to their easy installation, reasonable length for long penetrations and their extraordinary strength-to-ductility ratio compared to dry wall screws. A distinction is made here between partial and full-thread screws, with the former being used more for installation purposes and lateral loads and the latter optimised for axial loads.
For this reason, Eurotec has geometrically and materially developed the ETA and ICC-certified screws (Paneltwistec, SawTec, KonstruX) – with sizes of up to 10 x 1000 mm with a maximum pull-out resistance and a yield moment of 12.2 kN and 70 Nm – for high-strength and low-cost connections of solid wood elements.
Did you know...?
According to ETA-11/0024, all galvanised Paneltwistec, KonstruX and SawTec screws can now be used in beech veneer plywood as well.
Due to growing challenges and the rapid development of wood construction materials, Eurotec continues to work intensively on targeted unique solutions for highly stressed wood connections.
